Excerpt from report by Iranian TV on 14 August
[Announcer] Today, [Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hamid Reza] Asefi made certain revelations. He disclosed that America and Britain had been directly involved in incidents in Khuzestan and western parts of the country.
[Asefi] Unfortunately, on the basis of the intelligence and documents discovered, the British were involved in the unrest in Khuzestan some time ago. Some of those involved were trained in bases in British-controlled areas of Iraq and then they came to Iran. We protested to the British on different occasions. We did so at the diplomatic level, as well as during the talks held in Tehran and London. We warned the British of the dangerous consequences of such interference. We stressed that they must be careful about their behaviour and refrain from taking such measures in the future.
There is some intelligence that the Americans are interfering in the northwestern part of Iran. From the Islamic Republic of Iran's point of view, this is totally unacceptable. We shall protest against what America has done soon. We shall also announce why we are protesting about this.
It is quite clear that the Americans have been caught up in a quagmire. Their efforts to destabilize the region are ridiculous. We shall definitely protest against America on this matter.
