Fairchild Semiconductor to Highlight 'Green' Power Solutions at Sino-US Forum on Energy Efficiency
Posted on: Monday, 15 September 2008, 12:00 CDT
Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE-FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance products that enable energy-efficiency, will be a keynote speaker on September 18, 2008 at the 'Sino-US Forum on Energy Efficiency enabled by Semiconductor Technology', held during IC China in Suzhou.
'Energy Efficiency: A Global Challenge' is the title of the address by Benjamin Tan, Fairchild's vice president, Sales, China and SEA. "This presentation will highlight how Fairchild is delivering 'green' solutions for various end applications. Our energy-efficient, 'green' power and lead-free products are especially important and relevant for the China market, where the government has given a very high priority to energy conservation and environmental protection," commented Mr. Tan.
"We are honored to join government officials and industry leaders from both the U.S. and China at this energy-efficiency forum," continued Tan. "The efficient use of energy is the quickest, cheapest, cleanest way to extend the world's energy supplies."
This high-level forum, organized by the Semiconductor Industry Associations of both the U.S. and China, will focus on a broad range of topics including government policies, system-level product and technology trends, IC technology and energy-efficient solutions to meet the global demand for 'green' products.
"In China, we have recognized for a long time the necessity to conserve energy," said Wen Jiabao while addressing the 11th National People's Congress. "The country's economic development in 2008 will be based on improving the economic structure, productivity, energy efficiency and environmental protection. The government has already put measures in place to cut total energy consumption in China by 20 percent between 2006 and 2010."
Fairchild, The Power Franchise(R), is uniquely positioned to address global energy conservation requirements with its innovative solutions and system-level experts. Fairchild is recognized as a global technological expert in power solutions, and has a very strong presence in China, which is a key part of its global strategy.
Tan will outline how energy efficiency can avoid approximately 2.5 billion tons of CO2 annually. He will also explain how energy savings of up to US$400 billion per year can be achieved with the right technology. Practical measures such as moving from single-phase AC motors to variable speed motors offer energy savings of up to 40 percent, while CFL lighting offers up to 75 percent savings over incandescent lighting and even more for LED lighting. Changing to Fairchild enabled, high-efficiency power supplies offers up to 35 percent savings.
"If 185 million households in China changed an average of five 60 Watt light bulbs from incandescent bulbs to CFL bulbs that included Fairchild components, enough power would be saved, just from the bulbs, to light over 5.8 million homes," commented Tan.
The forum will also emphasize industry collaboration between semiconductor technology providers, electronic product manufacturers and end-users. An exhibition of "energy efficient" products and solutions will be featured to further promote the role of semiconductor applications in improving energy conservation and environmental protection.
Tan concluded, "The 'Sino-US Forum on Energy Efficiency' is an excellent platform for Fairchild to share its vision. As the electronics industry continues to experience tremendous growth, Fairchild Semiconductor will continue to play a proactive role in driving energy-efficiency improvements. In fact, all semiconductor suppliers need to be vigilant and continue to develop next generation solutions that increase power efficiency."
