ComEd Launches Energy Efficiency Measures

Posted on: Wednesday, 25 June 2008, 09:03 CDT

Chicago-based electricity utility Commonwealth Edison, a subsidiary of Exelon, has launched Smart Ideas, a portfolio of energy efficiency measures, which is expected to yield more than $155 million in savings during the program's lifetime.

The new portfolio of energy efficiency measures includes compact fluorescent light discounts and appliance recycling rebates.

Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) said that the portfolio could place it among the top three utilities in the US within a few years, in terms of annual electricity savings achieved through energy efficiency.

ComEd has reportedly established partnerships with key stakeholders and performed a national review of energy efficiency best practices to develop Smart Ideas. This three-year portfolio of programs is expected to empower both residential and business customers to manage their energy bills.

The program is expected to reduce energy consumption by 1.2 million MWh, reduce peak load by 330MW and reduce CO2 emissions equivalent to removing 100,000 cars from the road.
