This Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) multi temporal color composite image represents an area of 412 Km swath width, centered over the Great Hungarian Plain.
The image is composed of three ASAR images acquired on different dates and assigning a color (RGB) to each date (Red: 01 December 2003 - Green: 14 July 2003 - Blue: 20 January 2003).
Hungary is predominantly flat. The Danube River forms part of Hungary's northwestern border with Slovakia and then flows south through the Hungarian capital, Budapest, which is seen in bright color in the bottom left part of the image. The two sections of the city, separated by the river, are remarkably different: Pest (east of the river) sprawls across flat terrain while Buda (west of the river) is very hilly.
The Great Hungarian Plain, drained by the Danube and Tisza rivers, occupies a large part of the image. Crops growing in the fertile agricultural lowland of the Great Plain are seen in different colors in the image depending on their seasonal evolution.
The northern part of Slovakia is known for its extensive and impressive mountain range, the Carpathians, while the southwestern part of the country is dominated by the Danubian Lowlands.
