Australian Silky Terrier
The Australian Silky Terrier is usually classified in the toy group or the terrier group. It is a small dog, about 10 inches high and weighing about 10 pounds. It has a silky coat that is generally kept about 5 inches long.
The Silky Terrier is believed to be a cross between the Australian Terrier and the Yorkshire Terrier, but it is likely that other crosses occurred as well. The breed originally had a mix of some silky haired dogs and some harsh coated dogs. During the 20th century silky puppies were intrabred and the breed was stabilized.
The Australian Silky Terrier tends to attach itself strongly to its owner. It may be suspicious of visitors at first, but will eventually try to get attention from the visitor. The breed is sensitive
Australian Silky Terriers are bred as house dogs, so tend to have a strong attachment to their owner and owner's family, coupled with a slight suspicion of strangers and strange dogs. If a visitor is welcomed by the owner most will then completely accept the visitor and try to get attention from them. This breed is very sensitive to tone of voice and tends to respond accordingly.
