Anatolian Shepherd
The Anatolian Shepherd is a breed of dog from Turkey bred to guard flocks of sheep from predators. As a breed it is independent and forceful, which make it a challenge to own as a pet. The Anatolian Shepherd must be well socialized if it is to be a companion. It tends to protect members of its family as if it were its flock. The Anatolian Shepherd has been known to kill bears to protect its flock.
The coat of the Anatolian Shepherd can be any length, color and pattern. It has triangular drop ears, a broad head, thick neck and muscular body. It can be 27 to 32 inches tall and weigh between 80 and 150 pounds. The average lifespan of the Anatolian Shepherd is a little less than 11 years. Health issues associated with the breed include, hip dysplasia, entropion, lipomas, as well as dermatologic and musculoskeletal problems.
